What is Voters for a Green Indiana?

Voters for a Green Indiana (VGI) is a nonpartisan group of volunteers who take climate change seriously. VGI believe candidates who understand the ongoing energy and climate challenges are best qualified to lead us through these changes. The goal is to inform voters about candidates who accept climate science, understand this is an important local & global issue, and support policies and actions to reduce carbon pollution.

How does this work?

There are many reasons to vote for a candidate: immigration, inflation, jobs, war, queer rights, and much more.

Here, VGI focuses on clean air, clean water, clean energy, healthy soil, sustainability and resilience.

Data centers are the big affordability and climate issue this election cycle. In recent years, Indiana legislators have passed several bills designed to attract data centers, including tax exemptions and policies to keep aging coal plants running beyond their useful life and fast-track new gas plants to power them. These policies also allow utility trackers that shift costs onto ratepayers, while continued reliance on coal and gas plants will increase heat-trapping carbon pollution for years to come. That’s especially concerning as Hoosiers face an energy affordability crisis and dozens of communities are still recovering from a historic climate disaster in August that caused an estimated $5 billion in flood damage. Frequent billion-dollar disasters are making home insurance affordability an issue. We can’t afford increasingly severe and dangerous heat, drought, and floods.

the research is already done for you!

We’ve looked at voting records on key 2025-2026 bills and campaign priorities.

In addition, candidates in all races were invited to share their views through a questionnaire. Their responses (if any) are provided. Candidates were contacted several times; lack of a response to our inquiries is noted. Due to limited volunteer time and resources, only major party candidates in select contested races were evaluated.

Our state’s environment and public health quality are going the wrong direction. With worsening air quality reports, higher waterway contamination, and surging development of massive data centers, our concerns are being ignored in favor of record corporate profits.

The upcoming elections will have a huge impact on what happens in the January 2027 Indiana Legislative Session, where everything from electricity affordability to wetlands conservation to data center development are going to be decided.

Hoosiers support common sense solutions to protecting our air, water, and health whether that be making polluters pay, saying no to big data centers, expanding rooftop and plug-in solar programs, or preserving our forests, streams and wetlands. Our voices are still not being heard at the Indiana Statehouse where policies continue to shrink health and environmental protections. We can change this at the ballot box on Nov 3.

EARLY VOTING HAS BEGUN! MAKE A PLAN TO VOTE!

Will you vote early, absentee, or on November 3rd? Early voting began on October 6th. Absentee ballot applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Polls on Nov 3 are open 6am to 6pm. Will you need a ride to the polls and do you have a Valid ID? Addressing these questions now means you are more likely to succeed at casting your ballot.
